Gas restoration

Gas shut off? How to get it back on.

When the utility or DOB shuts off gas after a leak or a failed inspection, service only comes back once a licensed plumber has repaired, tested and certified the piping.

Get gas back on

We call back within one business day with a written price and the first available date.

No spam, no mailing list. Your details go to the dispatcher and the plumber assigned to you.

The usual sequence

  • A Licensed Master Plumber locates and repairs the problem, under a DOB permit where required
  • The repaired piping is pressure-tested
  • The work is inspected and signed off
  • The utility restores service and relights appliances, or the plumber does

How long it takes

A single apartment line can be back in days. A building riser or service line can take weeks, because it involves permits, a sign-off and scheduling with the utility. Starting the repair quickly is the main thing an owner controls.

In the meantime

Owners commonly provide hot plates or other temporary cooking for affected tenants, and keep them informed with a timeline. Check with your managing agent and counsel on obligations for your building.

Questions

Short answers.

  • Can the super turn the gas back on?

No. After a utility or DOB shutoff, service is restored only after licensed repairs, testing and sign-off.

  • Will the whole building be repiped?

Not necessarily. Often only the affected section is replaced, but old risers sometimes fail the pressure test and need replacing.
